NHS funding policy for MPKs
The NHS England Clinical Commissioning Policy for microprocessor-controlled knees means that MPK’s can be prescribed to patients at specialist rehabilitation centres. The policy aims to enhance quality of life by improving patient choice of prosthetic componentry based upon individual needs. Blatchford has a range of Avior packages available for NHS clinics in England that enable patients to be prescribed with an Avior MPK plus a range of Blatchford prosthetic feet for a single price, to ensure the best clinical solution for patients with above knee amputation.

What is the service interval for Avior?
No service is required within the 3-year warranty period. If an extended warranty is purchased, Avior should be serviced between 30 and 36 months.

How does the user switch between configurations?
The user does not switch between configurations. Configuration set up is programmed by the clinician.

Does IP65 cover salt & chlorinated water?
No. Fresh water only.

Posterior inclination and deceleration of posterior angular velocity.

Which countries have reimbursement for K2 MPK use?
The United States is the largest country with a K2 MPK reimbursement program. Germany also reimburses for this patient category.

Is it a hybrid cylinder like ORION3? Why is it different?
Avior utilises a hydraulic cylinder. This design is ideal to accommodate the features and walking speeds required from the intended patient group.
The main differences are:
Orion 3 & Linx
- Hybrid pneumatic/hydraulic cylinder to control swing phase.

5 swing speeds controlled by pneumatic portion of the cylinder .

Hydraulic aspect only controls swing flexion with minimal effect on extension.
Avior’s hydraulic cylinder assists and controls the swing phase
- The cylinder has a spring energised accumulator that provides extension assist.
- The hydraulic cylinder controls both flexion and extension resistances allowing control of swing extension speed.

How long with physio does it take a user to learn features?
This will depend on the Physio; we have supporting materials and training guides to help them.
