Alex Thraxton

Blade XT wearer

Alex Thraxton chose amputation in 2022 after years of pain and mobility challenges caused by a brain injury following a car accident. Just two years later, he is not only back on his feet but thriving as a climber, NHS worker, and GB ParaClimbing athlete. The BladeXT has played a central role in helping him rebuild an active, adventurous, and independent life.

With its lightweight carbon‑fibre design and dynamic energy return, the BladeXT gives Alex the efficiency and spring he needs to walk comfortably despite ongoing weakness on his left side. Its split‑toe stability helps him descend steep paths to reach outdoor climbing crags and scramble confidently across the Peak District. The BladeXT’s waterproof durability also supports his demanding NHS work, allowing him to move safely on the wards without worrying about spills or contamination. At home, it gives him the independence to shower on two feet, walk his dog by the lake, and transition seamlessly from work to the gym without changing prostheses. From representing Great Britain at the ParaClimbing World Cup to hiking the Dolomites, the BladeXT has opened up a world of possibilities.

With my BladeXT, I’m able to live an active lifestyle. I need a lightweight foot with plenty of spring back, and it keeps up with everything I do.
